A stunning springtime park in Tokyo's western suburbs [SPOT REPORT]

In addition to visiting Yoyogi Park on the vernal equinox public holiday, my family and I also popped out to Koganei Park to check out the blossoms. We lived in the western suburbs of Tokyo for three years before moving to Niigata, and this was one of our go-to places that we enjoy revisiting when the opportunity presents itself! Spring is such a lovely time to visit the park, since it’s home to somewhere over 2000 sakura trees – so if you live in the Tokyo area (or you’ll be there this week!) it’s worth popping on your list.

With a pretty incredible 2000(ish) sakura trees on the grounds, Koganei Park in the western suburbs of Tokyo is a great urban cherry blossom spot.

Even though the weather was a little overcast yesterday, it didn’t deter folks from coming out to the park at all. We encountered plenty of people who were picnicking, cycling, or just strolling around the park grounds appreciating the seasonal beauty.

The park was pumping with people – cycling, strolling, or sitting on picnic blankets and mats enjoying the blooms.

This is a great park to visit if you have kids in tow, because there’s a lot of play equipment to choose from. I would recommend it even outside of the beautiful spring season for that reason alone! The park grounds are also home to the Edo Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, which is somewhere we loved taking our international visitors when we lived nearby.

Much like Yoyogi Park, the blooms at Koganei Park are at their best right now. If you can visit in the coming few days I would highly recommend it, otherwise the rain on the forecast is likely to knock down a lot of the petals.
