A look at how Japan's cities fared on the top 100 cities to work, live, and visit

There are plenty of lists that do the rounds online about the best cities worldwide to travel to, but most people likely understand that working in or living in a city provides an entirely different perspective than a vacation. A new report from global consulting firm Resonance explored all three factors (travel, work, living) and ranked cities based on these across 24 different metrics.

Four cities (including Nagoya in Aichi) made the top 100.

A number of Japan's cities performed quite well on the list, too. The report can be downloaded in full here, but some interesting points from it include:

  • Four Japanese cities made the top 100: Tokyo (4th place), Osaka (45th), Nagoya (94th), and Sapporo (98th).
  • Tokyo actually came in first place for both the shopping and restaurants metrics.
  • Osaka followed closely behind in second place for restaurants, showing that the two largest cities are great spots for foodie travelers, expats, and locals.
  • The upcoming Osaka EXPO was also mentioned as a big drawcard for the city
  • Nagoya ranked well on restaurants, labor force participation, and overall prosperity.
  • Sapporo made the top 100 on the list for the first time, and was noted for its status as an IT and logistics hub.

If you live in one of the four cities that made the list, how do you rate it from a travel/living/working perspective?
