Sunflowers are only for decoration

Sunflowers are only for decoration photo

I had a beautiful patch of sunflowers in the front of my house during early spring this year. I picked up a packet of seeds from Daiso and wasn't sure how they would turn out. They were bigger and way taller than I ever expected but I loved them.

The best part was figuring out how to harvest them for the billions of seeds. However, when I was drying out the seeds my neighbors were in shock to learn that I planned to roast and eat them. They even refused when I offered to let them try some. I knew finding sunflower seeds to eat in stores was rare, but I am surprised to learn that it is such a repulsive concept, at least to many of my neighbors.

My son loves them, both as a toy and a treat.

Weird. Sunflower seeds are loaded with minerals and good stuff. They’re a good snack for humans and animals, too. Your neighbors are missing out. Mottainai!

@edthethe Oh, and another one - pumpkin seeds. I either roast them in the oven toaster or in the fry pan with salt and pepper.
