TOKYO - Japanese "hina" dolls depicting figure skater Shoma Uno and speed skater Nao Kodaira have been unveiled in the hope of boosting expectations of medals ahead of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
Tokyo-based Japanese doll maker Kyugetsu Co. releases dolls of promising persons each year.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron are also featured as this year's hopefuls. The company said it believes they are "The right leaders to keep peace in Europe."
Hina dolls are dressed in traditional court dress and displayed from the latter half of February through the March 3 Girls' Day in Japan.
