TOKYO - ANA Holdings Inc. said Wednesday it will cancel 113 domestic flights between July 6 and 12 due to the need to inspect and fix Rolls-Royce engines on Boeing 787 aircraft.
The cancellations of flights connecting Tokyo's Haneda airport and 10 domestic airports are expected to affect some 21,000 passengers, ANA said.
The durability issue with Rolls-Royce-made Trent 1000 engine resulting from a design flaw has force several airlines around the world to ground their Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
ANA has been inspecting 136 engines for faster-than-anticipated wear and damage under instruction from the Japanese transport ministry in April after the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration issued a restrictive guidance on how far the Boeing planes with the Rolls-Royce engines can be flown from airports where they can make an emergency landing.
Japan Airlines Co., the other major Japanese airline, has no Boeing 787s with Rolls-Royce engines.
