GALLERY: Soccer fans celebrate Japan's World Cup qualification

TOKYO - Soccer fans celebrated Japan's qualification for next year's World Cup finals in Russia after the team beat Australia on Thursday night, with some taking plunges into a river in downtown Osaka.


Participants at public viewing events shouted in jubilation in Osaka and Shizuoka prefectures while police were mobilized to address overcrowding in areas near JR Shibuya Station in Tokyo which many fans flocked to after seeing Japan get a berth in the finals for the sixth time in a row.
