In honor of homes made from log
Today, and June 9th annually, is Log Home Day ログホームの日 in Japan. We call them "log houses" in English, but more than just the building, the anniversary is about promoting log houses as a home. The anniversary was created by Honka Japan, which seemingly are (or at least were at some point) the world's leading log-home manufacturer.
Honka Japan are headquartered in Tokyo. What is impressive about them is that, despite being a Japanese company, they export authentic Finnish wooden homes around the globe. Honka’s log homes combine Finland’s long woodworking tradition with modern technology, resulting in premium designs that have been built in more than 50 countries worldwide.
The company chose June 9th for this anniversary because 6/9 can be read as "lo (6) gu (9)". They promote the anniversary to help more people discover the charm of log homes, especially as interest grows in healthy housing and Nordic design in Japan’s urban areas. The photo in this post is not a Honka log home, just a photo I had handy of a log house in Japan.

Former nickname was "Saitama". Changed it to save confusion on place review posts! Irish, 20+ years in Japan! I also write on my personal website: insaitama.com
